FSU tight end Ryan Izzo is a seventh-round draft pick of the Patriots

The three-year starter is officially in the NFL.

After four years in the garnet and gold, Ryan Izzo’s hard work has paid off.

The New England Patriots drafted the former three-star recruit in the seventh of the 2018 NFL Draft, at overall pick No. 250. The 6-5, 250-pounder was never thought of to be a high-round pick, but is a solid blocker and should improve as a pass catcher with better quarterback play in the league. He becomes the second tight end drafted from Florida State in recent years after Nick O’Leary in the 2015 Draft.

Don’t let his stats fool you, Izzo’s production at FSU was hampered by poor quarterback play. In 2015, Florida State rotated Everett Golson and Sean Maguire, followed by two years of freshmen starters under center. Overall, Izzo totaled 54 catches for 761 yards and six touchdowns as a three-year starter for the Seminoles.
