FSU lineman Rick Leonard reacts to being a surprise pick of the New Orleans Saints

No one saw Leonard going this early.

Rick Leonard’s draft prospects were always going to be settled on day three— we all just figured we’d know his future closer to dinner than lunch. But the draft does nothing if not keep you on your toes, as the New Orleans Saints just reminded us of that by selecting Florida State offensive lineman Rick Leonard in the fourth round of the draft with the 127th overall pick.

Leonard (6’7, 311) began his Seminole career as a defensive end before making the move to offensive tackle. What he lacks in experience, Leonard makes up for with his pro-ready frame, which proved enough for the Saints to draft him a few picks before the freakish Josh Sweat came off the board, courtesy of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Leonard will join a pair of former ’Nole cornerbacks on the New Orleans roster: Patrick Robinson and P.J. Williams.

You can keep up with all of the Seminoles coming off the board with our continually updated draft tracker. But first, check out this video of an emotional Leonard receiving the good news:
