(6) Florida State defeats Jacksonville State 8-0 in a four 12 inning run rule game. FSU senior Kylee Hanson pitched a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts.

Game Recap

Kylee Hanson started out hot by striking out the side while throwing only three called balls in the inning. FSU also went down in order with two fly outs and a ground out.

Hanson continued where she left off by striking out the side again. However, Leila Chambers did reach for the Gamecocks after getting hit by a pitch. The Noles were again retired 1-2-3 this time with two ground outs and a fly out.

In the third Hanson continued her domination with three straight swinging strikeouts. She had only two called balls all inning on 12 total pitches in the inning. Elizabeth Mason started FSU’s half of the inning with a strikeout. Cali Harrod then delivered FSU’s first hit of the game with a single to left center. Morgan Klaevemann then struck out. After Harrod stole second the Gamecocks (unintentionally intentionally) walked Jessie Warren on four straight pitches. Carsyn Gordon then walked on four straight to load the bases with two outs. Sydney Sherrill came up and singled to right. She took second when the right fielder couldn’t field the ball cleanly. Warren and Harrod scored and Gordon advanced to third. Zoe Casas struck out to end the inning.

Anna Chisolm started the inning with a strikeout for JSU. That was Hanson’s 10th straight out of the game recorded by a strikeout. Taylor Beshears ended the streak with a fly out to centerfield. Alexus Jimmerson was hit by a pitch. Chambers then worked a walk to give JSU runners on first and second. The threat was extinguished by Hanson when she recorded her 11th strikeout of the game by getting Ryann Luna.

Danni Morgan started the inning with an infield single. Anna Shelnutt followed with a walk. Deja Bush pinch ran for Shelnutt. Mason singled to right scoring Morgan and advancing Bush to second. Harrod walked to load the bases with nobody out. Cassidy Davis walked after pinch hitting for Klaevemann scoring Bush. Klaevemann pinch ran for Davis. Warren doubled to right center to clear the bases. JSU replaced starter Faith Sims with reliever Kirsten Titus. Gordon grounded out advancing Warren to third. Sherrill flied out to shallow right and Warren couldn’t score. Casas took care of that by doubling to right center scoring Warren. Morgan ended the inning with a popout to short. The Noles scored six runs on four hits in the inning to take a 8-0 lead.

Hanson ended the run rule game with two more strikeouts and a fly out to set the Gamecocks down in order.

Post Game

Hanson (26-4) was obviously dominant in this game. She finished with five innings, no hits, no runs, 13 strikeouts and one walk. Her ERA went down to 1.03 from 1.06. If she pitches anywhere near this well for the rest of the tournament the Seminoles will be very hard to beat.

Warren was 1-2 with a walk, a double, 2 runs and 3 RBI. Sherrill had two RBI and Casas, Mason and Davis supplied the other RBI.

The competition will get tougher from here as FSU will take on Auburn next. The Tigers defeated Kennesaw State 5-2 in the first game. The winner’s bracket game will be tomorrow at noon at the Seminole Softball Complex.
