So far, the offseason that has followed the incredibly successful 2018 NCAA Tournament run by Florida State basketball has been one characterized by loss. And while it wasn’t terribly surprising when point guard C.J. Walker announced he’d transfer, eventually landing at Ohio State, it was nothing but shocking when rising center Ike Obiagu decided to transfer, ultimately winding up at Seton Hall.
But today, the Seminoles announced some extremely good news vis the FSU Hoops Twitter account: starting forward and team leader Phil Cofer has gotten another year of eligibility after missing time due to injuries earlier in his career.
A native of Fayetteville (Whitewater) Ga., Cofer (6’8, 218) is a versatile big for the ’Noles and an excellent fit in Leonard Hamilton’s high-tempo offense. Cofer made great strides over the last offseason, honing his three-point shot to become a legitimate threat from outside the arc, while also improving his midrange game. At times during the 2017-2018 season, Cofer simply carried the FSU offense. Needless to say, this is incredibly good news for Florida State basketball.
