Fall practice is set to kick off on Monday, and so in anticipation, today at 4 p.m., Florida State is making head coach Willie Taggart, offensive coordinator Walt Bell and defensive coordinator Harlon Barnett available to the media.
Though the media has had the opportunity to speak with Taggart on a few occasions, today serves as the first time that Barnett and Bell will have been made available to speak with them significantly, already a change of pace from yesteryears where assistants seldom made public appearances.
Barnett was seen as one of Taggart’s key hires, having snagged him away from Michigan State, Barnett’s alma mater and the school he had coached at for the last seven years.
Barnett played his college ball with Michigan State as a safety before enjoying a short career in the NFL. From there, Barnett had a short stint at the high school level before joining LSU and Cincinnati as a defensive coach. He has been with Michigan State, his alma mater, since 2007 as defensive backs coach. In 2015, Barnett was promoted to co-defensive coordinator and associate head coach.
