It was an impressive 2018 for the Florida State hoops squad. An Elite-8 run capped last season in March, and the current campaign is off to a promising 11-1 start and a top-10 ranking. Now it’s time to see what kind of encore the Seminoles have in store for 2019.
That’ll begin with an afternoon tilt against Winthrop today, as the ’Noles will host the Eagles at 2 pm. You can watch the game as an ACC Network Extra event on ESPN3.
Winthrop (based in Rock Hill, South Carolina) is currently first in the Big South Conference and comes to Tallahassee at 8-4 and ranked No. 149 in KenPom’s D-I rankings. The Eagles feature a balanced attack, with five players averaging double-digit points. They’re led by 5’10 senior guard Nych Smith, who’s contributing 16 PPG and 3.9 APG.
This one could be a lot of fun to watch— but don’t blink, or you might miss it. Winthrop plays really fast. The Eagles are 15th in the country in adjusted tempo; to put that into perspective, FSU, which also likes to get up and down the court, is 86th.
