FSU basketball gets best draw yet in latest bracketology

Road trip?

NCAA Basketball: Winthrop at Florida State Melina Myers-USA TODAY Sports

Well this would be fun. The No. 9 Florida State basketball team has returned to its highest seed of the year in today’s bracketology projection released by Joe Lunardi, getting a 3-seed in the West region.

But that’s not the whole reason for the superlative in my title. Lunardi has the Seminoles opening play right down I-10 in Jacksonville. In this most recent projection, the ’Noles draw 14-seed Radford in the first round, and if victorious, would remain in Duval to take on the winner of 6-seed Marquette and 11-seed San Francisco. Jacksonville is the closest host venue to Tallahassee and would mean de facto home games for FSU.

Then it would be out to Anaheim to face whichever squad emerged from the pod of 2-seed Michigan State, 7-seed Villanova, 10-seed Arizona State, and 15-seed Holy Cross. The region’s top seed, on the other side of the bracket: Nevada.

Bracket Matrix still has Florida State’s most popular draw as a 4-seed, while Team Rankings says FSU’s most likely spot is as a 5-seed.
