Bracketology: FSU vs. UF in NCAA Tournament’s 2nd round— in Florida?

That’ll sell some tickets.

NCAA Basketball: Florida at Florida State Melina Myers-USA TODAY Sports

In the second game of the 2019-2020 season — now less than a month away — the Florida State men’s basketball team will travel to Gainesville to try and extend their winning streak over Florida to six straight, and three in a row in Hogtown.

And in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi sees a possible rematch. Lunardi’s most recent tourney projection has the ’Noles as an 8-seed (down a line from his last forecast), opening play against 9-seed Davidson in Tampa. The top-seeded Gators, assuming a win over 16-seed Rider, would face the winner of that game with a ticket to the Sweet 16 on the line.

But the Florida schools aren’t the only ones with some home-cooking in the South region. Duke gets its first two games in the state of North Carolina, as NCAA bylaws require (across the bracket, UNC is in the same pod— again, rules, people). But if 3-seed Baylor can win a couple games, they’d be a popular team in Houston.
