No. 17 FSU basketball vs. North Alabama: Preview, Vegas line, how-to-watch, game thread

The ‘Noles return from Christmas break

NCAA Basketball: Clemson at Florida State Glenn Beil-USA TODAY Sports

In our ongoing effort to bring you the most relevant information on FSU opponents we had to dig deep for this one. We started with the college hoops Bible - the Blue Ribbon Yearbook - but discovered that they previewed every team in the nation except the one we’re playing. So we tracked down the North Alabama (5-7) media guide and read it over the holiday break. Here’s what we learned:

  • They can throw shade, leading their media guide:

The Lions boast the richest men’s basketball tradition in the State of Alabama

And it’s true! They boast two National Championships in 1979 and 1991. It does not state which division however, so we’ll get back to you once we complete some research offline.

  • Continuing with the shade, Head Coach Tony Pujol, when he was an assistant coach at VCU, bounced Duke from the 2007 NCAA Tournament.
  • UNA currently boasts the only live lion mascots in the country living on campus. The current male lion is Leo III, but his predecessor Leo II was once named the “second best mascot” in the nation.

Players to watch

Probably the Florida State players.

Ideally this is a game where the ‘Noles can build a comfortable lead utilizing more of the bench. This could be a game where Balsa Koprivica, Anthony Polite, and Raiquan Gray are the box score stars.

UNA has the 298th rated offense in the nation. They are 279th in 3-pt%, and 347th in non-steal turnover%. Their defense hasn’t been much better.

Who will win?

Ken Pomeroy FSU 99%

Vegas line FSU -24.5
