The Seminoles started off their three-game road stretch picking up a victory in Atlanta over the Yellow Jackets tying their program record 7- straight ACC wins for the first time since 1992. It also marks the school-record 11th consecutive season the Seminoles have won at least eight conference games; and 4th consecutive season with 20 plus wins. Florida State beat their second consecutive ACC team by 20 plus points in their 69-47 win over Tech.
In the first half, freshman guard Devin Vassell came off the bench and contributed significantly. He was the leading scorer with 9 points followed by Christ Koumadje, 8 points and Nichols and Cofer with 6 points. The ’Noles shot 41% from the floor compared to Georgia Tech’s 29%.
Florida State last few minutes of the first half were sloppy allowing Georgia Tech to pickup 5 points shortening their deficit to 11 points. Seminoles led, 34-23.
Koumadje picked up his second-straight double double of his career. He ended the game with 10 points, 12 rebounds and 1 assist. Koumadje also entered the game leading the ACC with 51 dunks picking up 3 more to make that total 54.
Vassell led the team with 11 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist. He is now one of nine different players on the Seminoles basketball team to finish the game as the leading scorer this season. He was followed by MJ Walker and Nichols respectively who each had 8 points, 1 rebound and 2 assists. Walker however struggled to make them in from outside the arc going 1/6.
The Jackets shooting woes continued and the Seminoles held Georgia Tech to 47 points and finished shooting 27% from the floor.
The Seminoles will stay on the road and face the Tigers at Clemson on Tuesday at 9 PM.
