Florida State went 3-1 on the weekend against North Florida and Virginia Tech and were rewarded with a slight gain in D1Baseball’s poll. Along the way Mike Martin reached the 2,000 win mark which is a number no coach, regardless of sport, is likely to approach anytime soon.

Noteworthy

  • Clemson was the big winner this weekend. A week after dropping a series to in-state rival South Carolina the Tigers walloped North Carolina sweeping the series 3-2, 17-3 and 5-4. Even with some important attrition from last season and injuries before the start of the this season Clemson is proving to be a formidable foe.
  • UCLA looks like the big winner of the horribly named Dodger Stadium College Baseball Classic. The Bruins beat cross town rival USC and a good Oklahoma State team but couldn’t stay perfect, falling to Michigan. Meanwhile Michigan got the big win (UCLA) but couldn’t keep up the momentum and fell to both USC and OSU.
  • A week after sweeping LSU, Texas looked to keep the momentum going against Stanford and took the first game but couldn’t finish off the series as they dropped the last 3 games, scoring 3 runs total in losses.
