FSU baseball drops in polls after embarrassing week

Dropping 3 of 4 games in a week is not a recipe for success

Maine at Florida State Steve Johnson

The Seminoles had the Gators on the ropes in their mid-week game but atrocious fielding combined with poor pitching saw FSU get trounced once again at UF. The trend continued into the weekend as the ‘Noles lost the first 2 games, and the series at NC State before bouncing back to win the Sunday tilt. Appropriately, D1Baseball dropped FSU in it’s poll.

Dropped out of the Top 25 South Carolina — 22, Tennessee — 23, Clemson — 24

Noteworthy

  • UCLA takes over the top spot as they took the series from the 7th ranked Oregon State Beavers and Vanderbilt lost their series against Texas A&M. The West Coast is starting to look a bit better than year’s past with 5 teams currently ranked and unseating Oregon State as the premiere team in the west, at least for a week, is great for college baseball.
  • The SEC has a ton of fun baseball and is easily the conference of the year. Currently 9 SEC teams are ranked, which is 2 less than last week, more than any other conference. This last week Mississippi State took 2 of 3 from Florida, Georgia swept South Carolina, Texas A&M took 2 of 3 from previously top ranked Vanderbilt and Auburn swept Tennessee. All of those teams were ranked last week with South Carolina and Tennessee falling out after losing those series.
  • Clemson is certainly looking like a roller coaster of a team. After dropping the series to rival North Carolina the Tigers had a great week sweeping North Carolina and then taking a mid-week game from Coastal Carolina. Then they lost a home series to Notre Dame. Finding consistency will definitely be key for the Tigers and road trips to Boston College and Virginia Tech could be what they need before back to back to back weekends against Louisville, Florida State and Duke.
