FSU baseball moves up in polls

A 3-0 week allows the Seminoles to climb.

Maine at Florida State Steve Johnson

Even though Mercer was very outmatched by Florida State it was the Seminoles’ toughest test of the year and they easily passed it by sweeping the Bears (the mid-week game against the USF Bulls was rained out). FSU is 1 of 3 teams ranked in D1Baseball’s poll to maintain a perfect record thus far into the season.

Dropped out of the Top 25 Oklahoma State — 19, Clemson — 23, Cal State Fullerton — 24, Illinois — 25

Noteworthy

  • Two top 5 teams struggled quite a bit this week with No. 13 LSU getting swept at No. 12 Texas and No. 14 Texas Tech going 0-fer at the Frisco Classic (the Red Raiders were not able to play their 3rd game due to cold). LSU losing to Texas is the more surprising of the 2 as the Longhorns put up at least 7 runs in every game against the Tigers.
  • Speaking of the Longhorns, they certainly have a tough stretch coming up and will learn a lot more about their team. Next week they visit No. 6 Stanford, the week after that they host No. 14 Texas Tech and No. 15 Arkansas and then head to No. 23 TCU.
  • The ACC maintains 4 teams in the polls after NC State moved up to 22 with a sweep of Minnesota and Clemson dropped it’s series (2-1) to rival No. 24 South Carolina. Clemson needs pick themselves up quickly as they visit Furman on Tuesday and host No. 3 North Carolina over the weekend.

FSU in other polls

Florida State once again held steady at No. 6 in Baseball America’s Top 25.

Florida State hosts North Florida before starting ACC play by hosting Virginia Tech for 3 games over the weekend.
