Where are FSU football’s undrafted free agents headed after the 2019 NFL Draft?

Draft hopes? Dashed. Pro chances? Not so much.

NCAA Football: Northern Illinois at Florida State Glenn Beil-USA TODAY Sports

The 2019 NFL Draft is over, but the same is not necessarily the case for players who did not hear their names called in Nashville. No green room, no fancy suits, and no hugs from the commissioner don’t necessarily mean no more football. And several Seminoles are banking on that.

For while Florida State defenders Brian Burns and Demarcus Christmas saw their draft dreams become reality over the last few days, a handful of other ’Noles are still pursuing their professional dreams as undrafted free agents. FSU’s most notable UFAs:

  • Receiver Nyqwan Murray
  • Running back Jacques Patrick
  • Offensive lineman Alec Eberle
  • Offensive lineman Derrick Kelly II

While missing out on the opulence of the draft can sting the ego a touch, going the route of undrafted free agency can often be better for a player, who may hear from several teams and get to choose the situation and scheme that gives him the best chance to succeed. Being a last-breath draft announcement, on the other hand, means your rights belong to that team, and that team only.

We’ll update this piece as undrafted Seminoles get their professional opportunities.
