FSU baseball not ranked for second straight week

Apparently going 1-3 on the week is not a recipe for positive recognition.

Maine at Florida State Steve Johnson

Florida state (19-12) started the week off by dropping an extra inning game against Jacksonville before getting blanked twice by Miami in Coral Gables. Thankfully the ‘Noles rebounded, taking the series finale but that wasn’t enough to improve their ranking from not ranked.

Dropped out of the Top 25 Florida— 21, Connecticut — 22, Oklahoma State — 24

  • In the battle of 1 v 2, 1 won. UCLA dropped there series opener at Stanford only scoring two runs but then erupted for double digit scores in the next two games. UCLA maintains the top spot in the polls by getting at least five innings from each starter, although the bats helped keep starters in as they gave up at least four runs in the final two games.
  • The other top five series saw Vanderbilt take the first game of the series at Georgia but then drop the remaining two to lose the series. Georgia gave up three, three and one run in each game of the series and that’s a good way to ensure yourself a victory.
  • Lots of shake up in the top ten this week. Along with two top five series already mentioned four other teams either went 2-2 or 1-3 on the week. NC State started the week off with a mid-week loss to South Carolina and then took two of three from Boston College. Arizona State really struggled falling 14-9 to Long Beach State and then proceeded to lose the first two games to USC before bouncing back on Sunday. Texas A&M lost their road series at LSU and Louisville did the same at Clemson. 14 of the top 25 teams went .500 or worse on the week.
