Can the ’Noles secure a postseason spot with a win today?

Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

The Seminoles finished the regular season unranked after dropping two of three games in Louisville in a series where none of the games were competitive. An at-large bid invitation to play in a regional in not a given at this point. As of this morning in D1Baseball’s latest Field of 64 they project FSU as a 3-seed in the Athens regional. This prediction is likely predicated on the the idea that the ’Noles will win, at minimum, one game in their pool play this week. Advancing past pool play would more than likely get FSU in a regional and winning the tournament, as they have done the past two years, would guarantee a trip.

No. 6 Seed Florida State will start off their tournament on Tuesday by playing No. 9 Seed Wake Forest. The ’Noles faced Wake Forest in Tallahassee less than a month ago winning the first two games by a score of 13-2 and 9-5, before falling in the series finale by a 16-12 score. Drew Parrish, who will start today, was lights out against the Deacons as he threw 7.0 scoreless innings in which he struck out 10 batters, issued only one walk and allowed three hits. The Demon Deacons will turn to Colin Peluse who lasted only four innings when facing the Seminoles giving up four runs on eight hits and four walks.

Since their series Florida State has 7 wins and 5 losses while Wake Forest has scuffled to a 4-6 record with bad losses against High Point and Radford and series losses against Miami and Clemson
