Florida State baseball ends the regular season unranked

Winning just one game in the ACC Tournament was not enough to get FSU back in the polls.

A rough regular season comes to a close for Florida State baseball (36-21, 17-13) and, predictably, the ‘Noles find themselves unranked in D1Baseball’s top 25 entering the NCAA Tournament. But they are entering the tournament in Athens, GA. Florida State finished with a RPI of 50 and did just enough for the committee to give them a shot.

Noteworthy

  • North Carolina likely vaulted both Miami and NC State for a hosting bid as the Tar Heels won the ACC Tournament while Miami failed to make it out of pool play and NC State was 1-2 with both losses being the blow out variety. The ACC received three host sites as did the PAC 12 and Big XII. The SEC pulled in six. The ACC also has eight entrants into the tournament behind the SEC’s 10.
  • Unsurprisingly UCLA captured the top seed in the tournament. The Bruins have been out in front all year and finished the season as the PAC 12 champs (the PAC 12 does not have a post season tournament for baseball) and are the only team of note to lose fewer than 10 games.
  • It seems the committee has a desire for variety in Omaha this year as site pairings have coincided with conference affiliation. Vanderbilt/West Virginia, Mississippi State/Stanford and Louisville/East Carolina are the only pairings that are cross conference.
