FSU women’s basketball point guard Izabela Nicoletti will miss the 2019-2020 season due to injury

Simply horrible news

NCAA Womens Basketball: ACC Tournament Notre Dame vs Florida State Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports

Redshirt freshman point guard Izabela Nicoletti will miss her second straight season due to a knee injury. Nicoletti tore her ACL last Thursday and Florida State confirmed today that the injury is expected to force the former 5-star recruit to miss the entire 2019-2020 season. While the injury this time is to her left knee unfortunately the awful result is the same.

Nicoletti was expected to take over the point guard duties for a Seminole team that was poised to make a serious move on the national scene. Florida State brings back the entire roster from last year’s team that reached the second round of the NCAA tournament. With the arrival of a heralded recruiting class that features a couple of McDonald’s All-Americans the Noles looked like a team capable of a breakout season. Considering all of the talent on the roster, FSU seemed set to have depth at every position - except point guard. Nicoletti was the only player on the roster recruited to run the point and now she won’t be available. Nicki Ekhomu and Nausia Woolfolk will likely reprise their roles from last year and take over the point guard duties.

The only (very thin) silver lining is that Nicoletti would likely be a strong candidate to receive a sixth year of eligibility from the NCAA similar to FSU men’s basketball forward Phil Cofer. However, the Noles aren’t thinking about that right now. This is a terrible blow to Nicoletti in particular and the team in general. We send our best wishes to Izabela as she works to recover from another unfortunate injury.
