Checking back in with FSU basketball’s rising bracketology projection

Coming soon to a court near you— Florida State hoops.

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament-West Regional-Gonzaga vs Florida State Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

Hey! It’s been a minute. But we thought we’d take this chance to catch you up on where ESPN’s Joe Lunardi thinks the Seminole are headed in his latest bracketology projection.

We’ve not really done a full update on this since Independence Day, and for good reason: the Seminoles were slotted in as an 8-seed then, and they remained there for Lunardi’s next three projections. Until his most recent forecast, when the ’Noles improved a line.

Lunardi now has FSU as a 7-seed, beginning play in the West Region’s Cleveland venue against 10-seed Iowa. Waiting: a possible round-two matchup with 2-seed Kentucky. The top seed in the region, which would be decided in Los Angeles, is Kansas.

Speaking of top seeds, Lunardi has elevated the Florida Gators to the top line in the South, playing their first two games in Tampa. Of course, FSU will have something to say about that, when it goes for its sixth straight win over UF, this season in Gainesville— but for more on that, check out Matt Minnick’s piece from yesterday, in which he took a closer look at Florida State’s recently released schedule.
