Yesterday, Perfect Game released their preseason All-Americans which featured FSU ace CJ Van Eyk. Today, PG released their top 25, which has the Seminoles at number 14 heading into the season. After losing nearly half of their offensive production, FSU still finds themselves in the top 15 heading into Mike Martin Jr.’s first season at the helm.
The road to 40 wins in 2020 will be anything but easy as FSU is set to face five of the top 13 teams in the nation and six of the top 25. FSU will play 17 games against preseason top 25 teams. The strength of the schedule also means more entertaining games in Dick Howser Stadium. FSU is set to play home series against three of the top seven teams in the nation, including No. 1 Louisville, No. 3 Texas Tech, and No. 7 Miami. The ‘Noles are one of seven teams from the ACC in the rankings and the fourth ranked ACC team. Out of the eight teams from last year’s College World Series, FSU is the lowest ranked team. With a new head coach and quite a bit of lineup turnover, this isn’t surprising.
This FSU team has talent, lots of it, but 40 wins may be a large feat for them to accomplish in 2020. This is the hardest schedule FSU will have faced in a while. Even if FSU doesn’t reach that 40-win mark, they could be a regional host this year with the help of RPI and their strength of schedule.
We’ll update this piece as more preseason rankings come in.
