Florida State head coach Mike Norvell has proven time and time again that he is willing to innovate in order to find the best advantages he can.
While the shotgun midline isn’t his invention he had to be paying pretty close attention to the coaching world to run across it. It’s not a common play.
So what is this midline option play? Simply put its a changeup from the traditional zone read or read option play. The biggest difference being that you read the defensive tackle instead of the defensive end.
But why would you run it? What is it good for? Well, if you want the answers to those questions you’ll have to join me on the first edition of a segment tentatively named “Chalktalk.”
If you want to see the play in action you can check it out here @ 1:04:20
I hope that was informative. Like always I would love to hear some dissenting opinion in the comments below. This is a new format and as these things go they take time to get refined. If you want to see more of this kind of thing make sure to let us know and what you think can be improved on in the future.
