Breaking down the high level battle in Cameron Indoor

NCAA Basketball: Florida State at Duke Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY Sports

Well, that was no fun. (APPLE // SPOTIFY)

We start with the elephant in the room - the refs - so feel to skip over if you want to get to what went well and what didn’t (and no, we’re not blaming the refs for the loss). Trent Forrest had a game which was easily one of the handful of best games of his impressive career. He passed Bob Sura on the career steals list and is now 3rd all time. He forced five turnovers against a 5* point guard. His final stat line was 18 points, 9 rebounds, 8 steals, 4 assists, and a block.

Since much of the ACC media will see FSU one time this year (tonight), then there are good chances that Trent will finally get a spot on the ACC All Defensive Team.

FSU also did a fantastic job of defending the post, limiting All American Vernon Carey Jr., and we break down how that happened from a scheme perspective.

Unfortunately, as with any loss, there were some down areas. FSU needed the big three of Forrest, Devin Vassell, and MJ Walker to have a big game, and only Trent was able to do that. Then there were the painstakingly obvious shooting woes from deep and from the stripe.

Finally, where does this leave FSU’s season?
