After dropping game one after a lackluster offensive performance, the Seminoles responded with a 24-run performance on Saturday night. Freshmen Tyrell Brewer and Dylan Simmons led the way on offense along with Carter Smith providing FSU’s first homer of the season. On the mound, Jimmy Belanger got to throw out four freshmen for their first college appearances after Shane Drohan struggled with command and efficiency issues again to start the season. Florida State’s offensive outburst largely came off of clutch, two-out hits.
Florida State and Niagara will square off in a rubber match today to decide the series. With some incoming rain, the game has been moved up to a 10 AM start. Conor Grady will get the start on the bump for the Seminoles as freshman Steven Hospital goes for the Purple Eagles. Grady broke out as a starter in FSU’s postseason run last year, as he posted a 3.64 ERA on the season.
