Updating FSU basketball in the AP, Coaches Polls, with KenPom, NET rankings

Florida State rises in rankings before showdown with Lousiville

NCAA Basketball: Florida State at N.C. State Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

After a 2-0 week, the Florida State Seminoles have moved up to number six in both the AP and Coaches polls. FSU jumped the Duke Blue Devils and Maryland Terrapins after each lost.

Florida State is now the highest-ranked team in the ACC and will take on the Louisville Cardinals tonight. The Chris Mack’s squad had a bounce back week with blowout wins over the Syracuse Orange and North Carolina Tar Heels.

Despite the top 10-ranking and 23-4 record, KenPom still doesn’t think too highly of the ‘Noles, ranking them 21st. The offense moved up from 40th to 38th while the defense rose from 18th to 16th. The NCAA’s NET ranking has Florida State 12th.

FSU currently sits at third in the ACC standings, but would jump to number one with a win tonight. However, under this scenario, Duke would control its own destiny in the conference; if Coach K’s boys win out, they’ll take the regular season title. The Seminoles locked up a double-bye in the ACC tournament with their win over the Wolfpack.

The Seminoles are currently looking at a number two seed in the NCAA tournament. A win tonight would go a long way in putting a hold on that seeding. FSU will look to keep their 20-game home winning streak intact tonight.
