No. 8 Florida State softball begins their season today with a day-night double header against North Carolina and No. 1 Alabama. UNC is coming off a 38-20 season while Alabama was 60-10 and finished the season in the semifinal of the women’s College World Series. The Tarheels aren’t ranked, but received votes in the USA softball rankings. After the huge season, Alabama enters the year as the number one team in USA softball’s rankings. The ‘Noles will have a tough test to start the season. The two games are apart of this weekend’s Florida State tournament which also features the Detroit Mercy.
Florida State’s lineup for opening day returns stars Dani Morgan, Sydney Sherrill, and Elizabeth Mason in the middle of the order. Freshman Chloe Culp gets the start at DP, while Tulsa-transfer Josie Muffley gets the start at SS in her first game as a ‘Nole. Tennessee-transfer Calyan Arnold gets the start in the circle in her first game as a ‘Nole. FSU’s game one lineup against UNC is as follows:
