3/2 A.M. UPDATE: FSU baseball in the polls

‘Noles fall in polls after 2-2 weekend.

Brett Nevitt

Florida State had an up-and-down weekend, sweeping Florida Atlantic before getting swept by Texas Tech. Despite dropping two games, FSU shouldn’t drop too much in the polls, as they held their own against a top five Red Raiders team. Last week, FSU found itself heading in the right direction in the polls. Florida State was No. 9 on D1Baseball, No. 12 on Baseball America, and No. 14 on Perfect Game. We’ll update this piece with the ‘Noles week 4 rankings as they roll out on Monday morning.

UPDATE: FSU drops in each ranking. ‘Noles now 11th on D1Baseball, 14th on Baseball America, and 18th on Perfect Game.

Through 11 games FSU’s offense is hitting .258 with an .835 OPS. The ‘Noles are averaging 9.36 runs per game, while reaching base 43.8% of plate appearances. The pitching staff has compiled an ERA of 2.32 and a 1.15 WHIP. The staff is striking out 11.94 batters per nine and have held hitters to a .187 batting average. The defense has held FSU back, with a .937 fielding percentage. FSU is making 2.36 errors per game. 31.5% of opponents’ runs have been unearned.

Up next for the Seminoles is a mid-week game at Mercer, before starting conference play on the road at Duke. Duke is another top-15 team, while Mercer is yet to lose a game. Both teams are NCAA tournament-caliber teams. The schedule isn’t getting any easier for the ‘Noles.
