- After failing to find the big hit in the first two games, the Seminoles exploded for six extra base hits on Sunday. FSU still had some struggles with situational hitting, especially early in the game, but when you produce the big hit it doesn’t matter. The ‘Noles knocked a season high three homers out of the park. Logan Lacey, Reese Albert, and Elijah Cabell each had a bomb on the day. Lacey also accounted for two doubles as Albert produced one himself. Combine the extra base hits with six walks and FSU produced an impressive 1.120 OPS on the day. When FSU is working walks and comes up with the big hit, they’ll be hard to beat.
- A lot of people talk Cabell’s strikeout-rate and why it’s such a bad thing. The numbers aren’t great, but it’s not the end of the world for him. Yesterday (and all season) he showed why he deserves to be in the cleanup spot and why the K’s don’t matter. The sophomore had three strikeouts on the day, but produced five RBI as he came up with the clutch hits when it mattered. For the second time this season, he blasted a grand slam out of the park. He’s producing when it matters, with runners on. Strikeouts don’t hurt when there’s no one on base. If he continues to pick his spots, he’ll be a star.
- FSU’s bullpen is dominant. There just aren’t many other words for it. Florida State’s pen is loaded with talent on both sides of the hill. Sunday may have been their best performance of the season. The pen picked up Conor Grady. After he got just six outs, five different ‘Noles combined to throw seven scoreless innings, giving up just one (ONE) hit. That one hit came on an infield single which should’ve been an out. The pitchers threw strikes and kept hitters off balance all day. When FSU’s bullpen is this good and this deep, Junior doesn’t have to worry about pulling a starter early in the game, which is a great luxury for a rotation and a coaching staff. This bullpen is going to win Florida State a ton of games this season.
