‘Noles see significant drop in polls after 2-2 week

Florida State takes on Louisville Steve Johnson

After starting the week with a midweek win over previously unbeaten Mercer, FSU was given a rude awakening to ACC play at Duke. The Seminoles dropped the first two games of the series, both by one run, before bouncing back for a blowout win on Sunday. The blowout win likely salvaged the week for FSU and kept them from dropping too much in the standings. Despite the series loss, Florida State outscored a top 15-ranked Duke team on the road by four runs in three games. They also handed Mercer their first loss of the season. Despite losses, this team has shown the talent to stick with any top team in the nation early in the season.

Last week, the ‘Noles were 11th on D1Baseball, 14th on Baseball America, and 18th on Perfect Game. We will update this piece as the new rankings come out on Monday morning.

UPDATE: FSU is no longer a consensus top 25 team. Seminoles drop from 11 to 15 on D1Baseball and 14 to 19 on Baseball America. Perfect Game dropped Florida State at least 8 spots as they fall out of the top 25, despite our scoring their #8 team by six runs this weekend.

Through 15 games, FSU’s offense is hitting .249 with a .811 OPS. Florida State is reaching base 41.7% of the time, while scoring 8.4 runs per game. The pitching staff has compiled a 2.63 ERA and 1.15 WHIP. Florida State’s defense saw a bit better play this week, but still sit at a low .943 fielding percentage.

Florida will likely be ranked #1 heading into the midweek matchup on Tuesday. They’re the only undefeated team left in the country.
