FSU baseball’s Antonio Velez signs with Marlins

Velez was one of the best seniors in the nation in 2020.

Velez makes it official:

Original story from June 14: FSU baseball’s Antonio Velez has decided to sign as an undrafted free agent with the Miami Marlins. Velez was one of the best seniors in the entire nation this season, as D1Baseball rated him the 15th best senior pitcher in the country.

After transferring from HCC, Velez threw 62.2 IP and compiled a 3.16 ERA. He was a bit up and down in year one, but was dominant in his senior year. In 17.1 IP, Velez gave up just 1 ER and seven hits.

Velez will likely be most remembered at FSU for two performances against SEC powerhouses. The LHP threw FSU to Omaha last season, as he shut down LSU for 5.2 IP in the Baton Rouge Super Regional. This year, he broke the streak against UF, throwing six scoreless inning against the number one team in the nation.
