Not exactly the kind of a season opener everyone was hoping to have for new Coach Mike Norvell. We’ll have the smallest number of fans in the stands since 2019. There’s no tailgating, no band, no photographers on the field. The atmosphere will look like a sleepy spring game. But this is a real, ACTUAL, football game and it is in conference to boot.
We’ve been calling this season Year -1 for Coach Norvell because of the chaos and new protocols surrounding the insanity that is the 2020 football season. Distractions are a football programs kyrptonite, and we’ve had a decades worth of distractions crammed into six months. It’s a minor miracle the new staff has been able get us to this point.
None of that matters this afternoon. The players will put on the garnet and gold. There will be hits, catches, runs, tackles, and hopefully lots of touchdowns for the ‘Noles. A rebuild has to start somewhere and today is as good as any day in the year 2020. We finally get to see just how much more competent this team is. It’s football. Finally.
