FSU soccer vs. Alabama: Game recap

Florida State secures another win against unranked Alabama.

After a frustrating night in their season opener against No.9 Texas A&M, the ’Noles come out and defeat unranked Alabama 4-0 in dominating fashion.

Florida State seems to be showing no mercy in their hunt for their third National Championship in seven years.

The ’Noles returned 10 of their 11 starters from the championship game which accounted for 97.6% of their goals and 86.7% of their assists in the 2020 campaign.

Alabama started the game with an own goal from a corner kick by junior Jenna Nighswonger in the 20th minute of the game.

Freshman midfielder Maria Alagoa had a phenomenal performance in just her second match. The Portugal native finished the game with two shots attempted and one goal.

Florida State showed exquisite passing throughout the matchup leading to 17 shots on goal and five corner kicks. Lauren Flynn, Clara Robbins, Ran Iwai and Jody Brown each tallied an assist in the contest.

Freshman goalkeeper Mia Justus earned the start for the Seminoles allowing zero goals in 90 minutes with the help of veteran leaders Kirsten Pavlisko, Jaelin Howell and Lauren Flynn showing incredible poise throughout the game.

After a comfortable 2-0 lead head coach Mark Krikorian made sure the freshman class got an opportunity for in game action and plugged in almost every player on the roster.

The Seminoles had a great outing on both sides of the ball and showed depth will not be an issue come playoff time.

They’ll face unranked South Alabama next week where they look to continue their win streak pursuing the No.1 spot in the ACC and NCAA for the third straight season.
