Hey my TN family, there is talk Milton should start Week 2 after his performance on Sunday night.
Question: Should he start?
Okay, let's explore.
Here is all of KZ's moments (with a lead-in), play-by-play:
ND 38 - FSU 28 4Q 10:19 (This was after 38-20 3Q 4:37, then a JT-led 5m50s TD-2PT into the 4Q, (38-28) and an approximate 3min drive by Coan resulting in a punt, fair caught by Jay at the 12.)

3/4 at ND 24 (7:28 - 4th) Jashaun Corbin run for 5 yds to the NDame 19 for a 1ST down
1/10 at ND 19 (7:07 - 4th) McKenzie Milton pass complete to Ja'Khi Douglas for a loss of 2 yards to the NDame 21
2/12 at ND 21 (6:34 - 4th) McKenzie Milton pass complete to Jashaun Corbin for 1 yd to the NDame 20

(Ryan Fitzgerald KICK) KZ: Drive: 4/4 35yds, -3rush
ND 38 - FSU 35 4Q 5:36
ND starts on their 25 5:36 - ends on their 24 4:15 (-1yd, 1m21s) PUNT - fair caught by Jay FSU 29

ND 38 - FSU 38 4Q 0:40
ND starts on their 25 0:40 - ends on FSU 49 0:00 (26yd, 0m40s) INT - caught by Jay FSU 16 (HAIL MARY) NOTE: If Coan connects to either Austin on Mayer before this, I think they win by FG and there wouldn't be an OT).
ND 38 - FSU 38 OT
1/10 at ND 25 (OT) Jashaun Corbin run for 5 yds to the NDame 20
2/5 at ND 20 (OT) Jashaun Corbin run for 1 yd to the NDame 19
3/4 at ND 19 (OT) McKenzie Milton pass incomplete
(This of course is the most discussed play in the game. As a fumble on the field, Fitzgerald kicks a 50+ kick low through the uprights while a whistle was blown to take a look at the fumble on the field. I'm not going to fault Norvell for this because it did look as if KZ was in the middle of the pass (though I thought he tucked it and it actually was a fumble). Either way, Norvell got the call and the line was moved incorrectly to the 26 or 27 before being placed directly on the 19).
4/4 at ND 19 (OT) Ryan Fitzgerald 37 yd FG MISSED KZ: Drive: 0/1; Total 5/7 47yds, 6rush
ND 38 - FSU 38 OT
ND starts on FSU 25 - ends on FSU 23 (Williams 3yd, Mayer catch -1yd, Williams 0yd), FG GOOD
ND 41 - FSU 38 FINAL
I have been on the Milton train since 2018; we are fortunate his recovery was great and we are fortunate he wears Garnet and Gold. But here is my evaluation based on observation on Sunday...
...he's not going to be the all-time starter (and that's okay).
Please hear me out on why.
He most definitely could be starter with the precision and power he throws with...
- ...did you see him on the sidelines using the massager on his leg? (you know, that leg that will give him fits the rest of his life because the injury could have left him an amputee?)
- ...did you see his mom cry every play on the television (because you know the networks are gonna get that pain on film for ratings)?
- ...did it make you wince every time he went down, especially the Helton connection where he took a really hard hit, or the ruled-incomplete pass-fumble in which three ND players got to him?
Yes, Jordan had INTs and looked like he was curling out of pocket every play...but the facts don't lie; JT began the 18pt comeback and he was the first to congratulate his brother KZ on his 1st-driven TD as a Seminole (he still doesn't have a TD yet.) Don't get me wrong, I think McKenzie Milton would make a good NFL QB with his experience; but would we want to watch him possibly get re-injured by some heat-missile DEs with the intention of taking him out?
Please Mike, you're the head coach, and I obviously I have no affiliation to your staff...but...I say start JT every game and keep this gem the way he is: shiny, rested with maintenance, and mysterious to the DCs of the future...
Every reader knows the stories of his recovery won't stop until he is stopped, and we cannot ask him to take the brunt of the team when we have a good athletic quarterback in Jordan Travis to combine with him for 2021...
I want him to have as much success as he can on the field in the future...but after this year, McKenzie, consider being a coaching graduate assistant at FSU under Mike Norvell...(I can attest, it is a great Master's Degree program, contact email@example.com or go to https://education.fsu.edu/athletic-coaching for more information)...
McKenzie, you can be a great coach for either college or professional ball. You will always have a story, you will always keep your vision and keep defying the odds, and you will always be a Seminole.
Let's go KZ. Show them what you got this year, either as "starter" or "constant contributor". I'm as proud of you as your parents, your surgeons and doctors, your UCF family, and your Seminole tribe!
