FSU Baseball, What is going on with the pitching staff?

I think this is the worst Florida State Baseball team ever, it pains me to write those words. Florida State has been the premier baseball program in the state until approximately when Kevin O'Sullivan was hired at Florida. Miami had stretches especially in the 80's and 90's under Ron Frasier, a Florida State alumnus.

I would like to hear what others think is going on? We have recruited well, according to the recruiting rankings, but they are not being translated to performance on the field. I am going to take a stab at something that I think could be one of the problems and that is the approach of our new pitching coach, Chuck Ristano. I know he has a formula for success but that formula does not seem to be the approach that is helping the current roster. I always think that a great coach takes what the pitching staff can do competently and build off of that. So, obviously, we were a better staff last year and we did lose some really good players, but the previous Pitching Coach recruited players that fit his style of coaching. I can't think of one guy on our staff that is markedly better this year than in years past. Not one, everybody has regressed, maybe Baumeister improved and Crowell has done great, which everybody knows he was going to be great. It is hard for me to believe, that there isn't one competent pitcher on the staff, beside the 2 mentioned. We can't get a starting pitcher to string 5 good innings together! Is Chuck's approach to the development or lack of development, the reason we have the worst pitching staff in Division 1 baseball? How loyal is Link to his coaching staff, if next year shows no improvement? I hope I can eat my words this season or next.

I am amazed that I have not seen any improvement from the whole team, hitting, fielding and pitching. I don't think any of us would have predicted how bad we have played. I saw a stat that said we have lost the last 9 of 10 games. I will go out on a limb and say we have never in 68 years of playing collegiate baseball that we have ever lost this many games in a 10 game stretch. I look forward to hearing your comments.
