Florida State football initial spring scrimmage notes

With the first two weeks of spring practice in the books, the Seminoles made their way into Doak Campbell Stadium for the first scrimmage of spring. The media wasn't allowed to stay for any of the actual scrimmage, but we were there for pre-scrimmage walk-throughs. There weren't many new developments in the short period of time we were allotted, but here's what I saw.

*Nick Waisome walked on to Bobby Bowden Field without crutches for the first time this spring. Always good to see that.

*As expected, Waisome, Hunter, Darby, McAllister, and Haggins were all non-participates.

*Demarcus Walker was still out there but not participating.

*Austin Barron was not in pads again today, so I assume he wasn't going to participate. However, he was still snapping the ball for Coker during QB warm-ups.

Offense

*Bobby Hart was at right tackle again today.

*During walk-throughs there was a 4 WR set including Rashad Greene, Kenny Shaw, Willie Haulstead and Greg Dent. FSU will really benefit from a healthy Willie Haulstead in the mix. A big body with experience.

Defense

I was watching the defense a lot during the walk-through just wishing I could stay for the scrimmage.

*They were walking through blitz packages from the 3-4 and the 4-3 sets. Some of these looked just plain nasty. Had Christian Jones up on the line in a 3-4 look, dropped him out and replaced him with a pair of blitzers from the safety position.

*Sal Sunseri seemed very happy with Derrick Mitchell during walk-throughs. Kept saying: "You keep hitting him like that and nobody stands a chance."

I'll be back to get Jimbo after the scrimmage and see if he gives us anything good.
