With two full weeks of spring practice under their belts, Jimbo Fisher and his Florida State Seminoles kicked off week three scrimmaging inside Doak Campbell Stadium Monday afternoon. It was hot and the players were dressed in full gear.
The following players were not dressed out Monday: Ronald Darby, Scooter Haggins, Tre Jackson, Justin Shanks, Terrance Smith, Derrick Mitchell, Reggie Northrup, Nate Andrews and Ryan Green.
*Ryan Green was in a sling. Jimbo Fisher will speak following Monday's scrimmage and we'll bring you updates on Green's situation. Update: Bud spoke with Vader Green, Ryan's dad, and he passed on than Ryan will be 100 percent in June after having his shoulder repaired. The anchor from his high school labrum surgery came loose.
Tyler Hunter and Karlos Williams continued to wear their non-contact jerseys, as expected, but Kermit Whitfield and Rashad Greene also received non-contact jerseys right before the scrimmage began. I suspect these are primarily precautionary. No reason to get any of those guys banged up.
Kareem Are looks like he'll be wearing no. 72. While Ruben Carter -- who has been working at right guard since Tre Jackson has been sitting out -- was busy working with the quarterbacks as third string center, Kareem Are was getting reps at right guard with the first team. I imagine coach Trickett will utilize every second he has to work with Are, as he missed the first half of spring.
I mentioned it last week when somebody asked where he would likely end up playing, but Trey Marshall was working exclusively as the second team nickel corner during Monday's walk-through. I think he can be a stud from the star.
With Reggie Northrup out on Monday, EJ Levenberry took his place on the field, with Levenberry also joining Matthew Thomas as the second team linebackers.
Lamarcus Brutus continues to get reps as the first team safety with Nate Andrews being out. And while in the dime package, Tyrell Lyons is the next one in, while Levenberry heads to the sidelines. Brutus and Lyons have been getting lots of reps this spring and lots of praise, too. Nice to see them coming along to build depth.
As I metnioned, Jimbo Fisher will speak following Monday's scrimmage and we'll bring you any necessary updates.
