Brian Burns isn’t surprised by Florida State’s impressive running game

Burns said he’s seen it since fall camp.

NCAA Football: Florida State at North Carolina State Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY Sports

Florida State defensive end Brian Burns talked about the “thunder and lightning” combination of Cam Akers and Jacques Patrick. The duo combined for over 200 rushing yards against what was the seventh ranked rushing defense in the country.

The sophomore defensive end said he isn’t surprised by it, noting that the true freshman Akers and junior Patrick have been contributing since fall camp.

The Florida State defense did not allow a first half touchdown for the second consecutive game, keeping the ’Noles close. In fact, it’s 7-3 halftime lead at Duke on Saturday was the largest halftime lead FSU has had all season.

Burns noted that the defense doesn’t have a different mentality when it comes out on the field as opposed to later in the game. It’s always just about stopping the opposing offense from gaining any momentum.
