Derwin James on mental, physical effects of defending 95 plays in win over Syracuse

James had no idea the number was that high.

NCAA Football: North Carolina State at Florida State Melina Vastola-USA TODAY Sports

Syracuse runs a high tempo offense usually, however Saturday was a different level of high tempo as the Orange offense had 95 plays on the day, a season high.

When asked about staying mentally and physically strong throughout all those snaps, Derwin James didn’t even know it was that high.

“Man, I didn’t even know— They ran 95 plays? It’s football, man. It doesn’t even matter how many snaps. We love playing football....They did great with their tempo, getting on the ball and making us line up.”

James had his first interception of the season in the first quarter, marking the second of his career.

“Yeah, but I had like two drops. It was great just to get the first interception of the year, (the FSU offense) went down and scored, so getting the ball on the 50-yard line, it was a great start.”
