With the decision date for whether or not he will return for his senior season looming, Florida State running back Jacques Patrick has been proactive in seeking out opinions outside his normal sphere of influence.
One person he has reached out to, Royce Freeman, has a close knowledge of the decision process as well as FSU’s new head coach.
A year ago, Freeman was wrapping up his junior season at Oregon and weighing the decision of whether or not to return for his senior season. After Willie Taggart was introduced as head coach last December, he swayed Freeman to stay one more year.
This decision proved to be the correct one as Freeman was a cornerstone of Oregon’s rushing attack, finishing the regular season with 1,475 rushing yards, currently ninth most in the country, and 16 touchdowns.
“He had nothing but good things to say about the offense and Coach Taggart,” Patrick said of his conversation with Freeman. “I had a meeting with Coach Taggart and he told me if he tells me something, that’s what it means.”
Patrick said that he has still not reached a decision regarding his future at Florida State and that he doesn’t plan to do so until the few weeks after FSU’s bowl game.
Here’s the entire video from Patrick’s interview Tuesday:
