Cam Akers breaks Dalvin Cook’s FSU freshman rushing record

History!

NCAA Football: Louisville at Florida State Melina Vastola-USA TODAY Sports

Dalvin Cook’s name is all over the Florida State record books, as he shredded the ACC for three years as a Seminole. It all began for Cook in his freshman season of 2014, when he set a new FSU freshman rushing record with 1,008 yards on the ground. But Cook didn’t get to enjoy that record for very long.

Because on Wednesday, ’Nole frosh running back Cam Akers ran right past Cook and to the top of the list of Florida State’s rookie rushers. Akers eclipsed Cook during FSU’s Independence Bowl win over the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles by finishing with 94 rushing yards— his total for the season: 1,024.

A bruising runner who also possesses shiftiness and breakaway speed, Akers had a following at FSU before he even got to cmapus— being the No. 1 RB recruit in the country will do that. He quickly became a fan favorite in Tallahassee, as he’s been given the opportunity to showcase his talents right from the opener against Alabama.
