Is FSU football’s Deondre Francois a top-15 quarterback?

One national outlet says yes.

NCAA Football: Orange Bowl-Michigan vs Florida State Logan Bowles-USA TODAY Sports

According to Athlon, the Florida State football player wearing No. 12 for the offense is actually No. 13— in the entire country, that is, with regard to college football quarterbacks. After leading the nation’s freshmen QBs with 3,350 passing yards, 257.7 passing yards per game, and 8.4 yards per attempt in the 2016 season, Francois is set to return for his redshirt-sophomore campaign, minus some key contributors, but with the return — and addition — of some brow-raising talent.

All of this has him ranked 13th on Athlon’s list of the top 130 starting quarterbacks for 2017, as of now. After the exodus of several talented Atlantic Coast Conference QBs after last season, Francois is now the second highest ranked ACC signal-caller on the list, slotted in behind only returning Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson, of Louisville, who’s No. 1.

The next ACC quarterback ranked is Syracuse’s Eric Dungey, at No. 33, followed by NC State’s Ryan Finley, at No. 38. FSU’s first opponent in the 2017 season will be Alabama, with Jalen Hurts at the helm. Hurts is ranked two spots ahead of Francois, at No. 11— an ordering that could certainly be argued.

And, of course, ’Nole fans always keep an eye on their rivals. Athlon gives Feleipe Franks the nod at Florida, and places him at No. 77, while Miami’s Malik Rosier is slotted in for Miami, at No. 82.

So what do you think of the rankings? Should Francois be seeded higher? Lower?
