Dalvin Cook has a chance to do what no FSU running back has done in 20 years

Dalvin Cook could accomplish a feat last achieved by Florida State legend Warrick Dunn.

It’s hard to imagine, but it’s been 20 years since Florida State had a running back selected in the first round of the NFL Draft. Dalvin Cook has a very good chance of breaking that streak on Thursday night when Round 1 of the 2017 NFL Draft takes place.

In the 1997 NFL Draft, Florida State legend Warrick Dunn was selected twelfth overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a team that many experts have as a possible destination for Cook. Dunn was the last Florida State running back selected in the first round.

In between Dunn’s selection and the 2017 NFL Draft, there have been seven other FSU running backs selected, and only one in the second round (Greg Jones). Despite being selected in the lower rounds, FSU produced pro-bowlers such as Devonta Freeman (4th round), Leon Washington (4th round), and Greg Jones (2nd round).

In total, there have been three first round running back selections out of Florida State with Sammie Smith (1989) Dexter Carter (1990) the others.
