Following the Florida State Spring Game on Saturday, Jimbo Fisher gave a lengthy, 25-minute press conference regarding the game itself and camp as a whole.
Obviously, Fisher wasn’t too concerned with stats such as sacks and tackles as the spring game is almost to the level of a two-hand touch football game.
He did speak about freshman RB Cam Akers, praising the young back and noting that he isn’t afraid of getting hit and battling for those extra yards. Fisher said that he goes up against Derwin James every day in practice, something that was on display during Saturday’s game.
Fisher also addressed junior DE Josh Sweat who missed the game. The head coach said that the powerful defensive end was out all of the second half of spring with a knee injury.
Another topic was the tenacity of Derwin James who looked as fierce as usual out on the field. Fisher said it took him a few practices to get back to where he normally is, but feels confident about the star defensive back going forward.
WR Keith Gavin, who started the game with a non-contact jersey, was removed in the first half to do precautions per Fisher.
