With the unveiling of the Amway Coaches Poll today, there were no surprises for Florida State as the Seminoles, widely considered the favorite to win the ACC with some of the best odds to reach the College Football Playoff, were ranked 3rd in the preseason poll.
The ’Noles only sit behind Alabama and Ohio State in the first edition of the poll put together by submissions from college football coaches across the land.
A spot near the top of the preseason poll is nothing new for Jimbo Fisher’s FSU. In Fisher’s eight years, the Seminoles have now been a top-five team in the preseason coaches poll on four occasions and a top-ten team in six of his eight years.
That being said, this year’s ranking is FSU’s highest since 2014 when the Seminoles started the year No. 1.
With some of the conjecture gone and the first poll now public, the matchup between No. 3 FSU and No. 1 Alabama in the first week of the season now has the official backing as the greatest opening weekend game of all time by the rankings of the two teams involved.
Here’s the complete poll if you are interested with USC and Clemson rounding out the top ten.
The other major preseason poll of note, the Associated Press poll, will not be released until late August.
