Keith Gavin ready to make an impact in 2017

The sophomore wide receiver with no career receptions will be called upon as much needed depth this season.

What a difference a year makes.

A year ago, Keith Gavin arrived on campus and looked the part of a big-bodied wide receiver who was going to compete for playing time in his first year at FSU.

However, it didn’t happen. For a variety of reasons, not the least of which was the sheer number of players ahead of him on the depth chart, Gavin contributed mainly on special teams, recording no receptions in eight games.

Now, after the departures of three receivers from last year’s team, Gavin contributing is now looked at as more of a necessity instead of a possibility.

“A lot of work. Every day has been a grind,” Gavin said of his offseason. “I’m going against one of the best cornerbacks in the nation every play and we’re working each other every day. I’m getting better, he’s getting better, hopefully I’m making him better. It’s been a hard grind.”

As shown by Gavin’s impressive performance in Sunday’s practice, Gavin’s hard work has paid off as he looks the part of a player ready to have a breakout season in 2017.

Keith Gavin prepared to emerge this season for Florida State Seminoles Football.
