FSU football fan rooting guide, TV listings: Week 2

Even though FSU isn’t playing, there are plenty of other games.

NCAA Football: Orange Bowl-Michigan vs Florida State Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Due to Hurricane Irma, Kyle Griffis, your usual host, is unavailable for Week 2 of the FSU football fan rooting guide. Instead, you are all now stuck with me.

Without further interruptions, here are the teams you should be rooting for if you are a Florida State fan. (If you aren’t an FSU fan, I have no idea what you’re doing on this page, but welcome nevertheless)

Friday, September 8, 2017:

#11 Oklahoma State @ South Alabama, 8 PM ESPN2: South Alabama. Wait, what? Oklahoma State on the road at South Alabama? Hopefully the Jaguars can play more like the USA Jaguars and not those ones in Jacksonville and earn the upset over a top 25 team.

Saturday, September 8, 2017:

Cincinnati @ #8 Michigan, 12 PM ABC: Cincy. Michigan is ranked ahead of FSU, playing a home game— and did I mention Michigan was playing?

FAU @ #9 Wisconsin 12 PM BTN: FAU. Root for the FAU upset over a team ahead of FSU in the polls.

#17 Louisville @ North Carolina, 12 PM ESPN: North Carolina. Louisville is in FSU’s division and a top-25 team. The ’Noles could get some breathing room in the ACC Atlantic with a UNC upset.

Charlotte @ #19 Kansas State, 12 PM FSN: Charlotte. Non Power Five school vs. a ranked power five school? Easy choice

Northwestern @ Duke, 12 PM ESPNU: Duke. FSU plays Duke as its cross over opponent and a good Duke team would help Florida State’s strength of schedule.

Fresno St. @ #1 Alabama, 3:30 PM ESPN2: Alabama. Again, for strength of schedule purposes.

Pitt @ #4 Penn St, 3:30 PM ABC: Pitt. If FSU somehow ends up playing Pitt in the ACC Championship game, a Pitt win here would boost its resume making it a better victory for FSU when looked at by the playoff committee.

Delaware @ #18 VT, 3:30 PM ACCN: VT. If FSU plays Virginia Tech in the ACC Championship game, it wants a strong Hokies team to play.

#23 TCU @ Arkansas, 3:30 PM, CBS: Arkansas. Get rid of another undefeated team in the field.

Indiana St @ #25 Tennessee, 4 PM SECN: Tennessee. A better Tennessee means a better Florida if the Gators pull of a victory, which means a better win for Florida State. All about that transitive property.

#13 Auburn @ #3 Clemson, 7 PM ESPN: Clemson. It’s a non-conference game for Clemson and FSU needs a victory over a very high ranked team to keep its hopes up for the College Football Playoff.

#5 Oklahoma @ #2 Ohio State 7:30 PM ABC: Ohio State. Oklahoma has a better shot of going undefeated in a terrible Big 12 conference and any loss they occur would put them further away from playoff contention.

#15 Georgia @ #24 Notre Dame, 7:30 NBC: Notre Dame. Notre Dame plays ACC teams, better ND = higher quality schedule vs. those ACC teams = better for FSU.

Chattanooga @ #12 LSU, 7:30 PM SECN: LSU. If UF can pull the upset of a good LSU team, a FSU win over UF would bode even better.

Montana @ #7 Washington, 8:00 PM P12Net: Montana. FSU has no affiliation or common opponents as Washington and trails the Huskies in the AP Poll.

#14 Stanford @ #6 USC, 8:30 PM Fox: Stanford. USC has a better shot of going undefeated with its remaining scheduled.

Boise State @ #20 Washington State, 10:30 PM ESPN: Boise State.
