Update:
We now know what role Kelly will be filling on Taggart’s staff. Per a report from Bruce Feldman, Kelly will coach wide receivers at Florida State.
Another addition to Willie Taggart’s first coaching staff at Florida State, another renowned recruiter. David Kelly will be the next former Oregon staffer to cross the country for Tallahassee, as he’ll join the Taggart regime at FSU, as reported by FootballScoop.com. This is far from a surprise, as Kelly was seen with Taggart on the sidelines of the Independence Bowl.
Most recently, Kelly was the Ducks’ Assistant AD of Football Recruiting Operations, which came after a stint with Taggart at USF. The biggest theme of Kelly’s career? Versatility. He’s coached in the high school, collegiate, and professional ranks, and has recruited in conferences across the country. He was a high school head coach for a decade and won a state title in the recruiting-rich state of Georgia.
Kelly has also coached both on the field and in front-office capacities. His specific expertise, however, is on the offensive side of the ball, particularly with prepping both recievers (at Duke and Georgia Tech) and quarterbacks, the latter being a position that now looks to be fulfilled by Maryland offensive coordinator Walt Bell.
