DeCalon Brooks is FSU’s first ACC Linebacker of the Week since 2015

Apparently, this is still a thing.

Here’s some serious perspective on just how unimpressive Florida State’s linebacker play has been as of late: prior to DeCalon Brooks being named the ACC’s co-Linebacker of the Week following his performance against Louisville, the last time a Seminole had received that honor was when the redshirt-freshman Brooks was a junior in high school. That’s when Jacob Pugh captured the award in October of 2015.

Brooks shares this week’s honor with Miami’s Shaq Quarterman thanks to the former’s standout performance against the Cardinals. Brooks registered nine tackles, second in the game only to A.J. Westbrook’s 10, including two tackles for loss, a sack, a quarterback hurry, and a forced fumble.

Brooks has been a pleasant surprise for FSU at the Sam linebacker position. After missing the Seminoles’ opener against Virginia Tech, he has played in every other game and is already tied for fourth on the team with 22 tackles.
