Football
ESPN’s Andrea Adelson covered a great piece on Florida State’s Willie Taggart and quarterback Deondre Francois, who is not fully cleared to participate in practice till the fall. Taggart did not shy away from mentioning that the title of QB1 is up for grabs.
“That’s the beauty of coming in as a new coach: You see the guy who really wants it or who wants you to give it to him. We’re not going to win with a guy who wants us to give it to him. We want a guy who’s going to be highly competitive and not allow anyone to take their job. We’re always going to make it highly competitive while we’re here,” Taggart said.
He went on to discuss Francois’ recent incident with his ex-girlfriend and the criticism he came under at the end of last season for missing the game against Delaware State. The Taggart Era is sure to be one that includes more emphasis on leadership and an overall culture change.
“For me, I don’t care if you are hurt. You’re in there with your guys, especially the quarterback,” Taggart said. “I just felt like he wasn’t told to do those things or wasn’t held accountable....”
