FSU football opens as decent favorite over Virginia Tech in 2018 opener

Welcome to the heart of talking season, when we have to amuse ourselves with theorizing about football between baseball games. And one odds-making site has obliged, as BetOnline.AG today provided betting lines for a number of week one college football games, including the Seminoles’ opening contest against the Virginia Tech Hokies.

With this game being played in Tallahassee and the ’Noles likely to be the higher-ranked team, FSU always figured to be the favorite— the question, really, was by how much? The Seminoles open as 6.5 point favorites, a number a touch higher than I thought it might be.

Of course, there’s a long offseason still remaining, and attrition is possible for both teams. And then there’s fall camp, injury luck, and how well incoming players who’ve yet to hit campus acclimate. And, for Florida State, there’s a high-profile quarterback battle to be settled. It’ll be interesting to keep an eye on how the line moves as kickoff nears.
