Florida State football, recruiting news: FSU’s enviable, but complicated, QB competition

At this point in the offseason, Willie Taggart’s choice of starting quarterback is not clear at all.

Andrea Adelson, a staff writer for ESPN, details the complicated nature of the battle for starting quarterback at Florida State in 2018. The article is littered with many interesting quotes from the perceived favorites in the QB competition, James Blackman and Deondre Francois, and also includes some insight from head coach Willie Taggart on how he will make his final decision.

CBSSports.com thinks the Seminoles have the 2nd toughest schedule of all ACC teams. The site rated Georgia Tech as having the highest level of opposition for teams in the conference. For comparison, ESPN’s Football Power Index has Florida State and Georgia Tech ranked with the 2nd and 21st most difficult schedules in the nation, respectively.

The majority of returning defensive players for the ’Noles do not have a lot of full-time experience as starters. What they do have is a tremendous amount of talent and potential.

Recruiting:

Trezmen Marshall, a 2019 linebacker committed to the University of Georgia, was on Florida State’s campus yesterday for an unofficial visit. The Seminoles need to have a solid LB recruiting class in 2019, and this 4-star defender from the state of GA would be a welcome addition, if they are able to flip him from the Bulldogs.

WarrenNolan.com simulated the results of each 2018 College Baseball Tournament regional 100,000 times to determine the probability of each team advancing to the super regional. Based on those simulations, Florida State was determined to have a 56% chance to move on to the next round. Mississippi State had the next best odds to win the Tallahassee, FL regional at 21.7%.

The Florida State men’s basketball team got a little deeper as forward Malik Osborne has decided to transfer to FSU from Rice University. Osborne chose the ’Noles over programs like Wisconsin and San Diego State.
